The Memorial
We’re building where we began.
The Pachappa Camp Dosan founded in 1904 was the first Korean settlement on the U.S. mainland. In 2017, the City of Riverside formally recognized it as America’s first Koreatown.
The memorial is going to Riverside not because the site is convenient. It is going home.
Not a shrine — a museum of Korean American immigration
The name leads many to picture a shrine to one man. It is not. The hall will also serve as a museum of Korean American immigration history.
Los Angeles still has no museum of Korean American immigration. There is nowhere in the Americas that gathers those 120 years and shows them to the next generation. This hall fills that gap.
An exhibition hall, an assembly space, lodging, and an immigration experience center — a place the next generation can actually stay in.
